Passenger cars, trucks and buses using the Romanian road network are subject to tolls.

The time-based toll (Rovinieta) depends on the length of stay in Romania.

With TollRo, a distance-based toll system for heavy goods vehicles has been in force since 1 October 2026. At the same time, the previously separate bridge tolls in Romania have been abolished. Additional charges may still apply at certain border crossings between Bulgaria and Romania.

For vehicles up to and including 3.5 t, as well as for buses, the Rovinieta remains in place and can be purchased with the DKV Card at numerous partner filling stations*. Fees depend on the vehicle category, the selected validity period and the EURO emission class.

For goods vehicles over 3.5 t, the previous time-based Rovinieta was replaced on 1 October 2026 by the new distance-based toll system TollRo. Further information on tariffs, route tickets and applicable regulations is available from the Romanian toll operator CNAIR.
