DKV Mobility celebrates five years of Community Day

The Community Day has become a regular feature of Ratingen's calendar. When DKV Mobility hosts the event, the result is a mix of social projects, hands-on workshops and, above all, encounters that bring people together with the local community. For the fifth time, employees of the mobility service provider are trading their desks for a day of community involvement on September 23, working where support, knowledge and collaboration make a tangible difference. Since its launch in 2022, the Community Day has been a cornerstone of DKV Mobility's social engagement. The aim is to create lasting momentum in education, inclusion, integration, and climate and environmental protection, and to strengthen cohesion in the communities where the company operates. The Community Day also reflects the values of the Fischer family, the owners of DKV Mobility, who have combined entrepreneurial and social commitment across generations.

“If you work in a region, you also carry responsibility for it. That is what the Community Day stands for,” says Åsa Lautenberg, Chief Human Resources Officer at DKV Mobility. “What began in Ratingen a few years ago is now supported by hundreds of colleagues across eight countries. They learn from the people in their communities, and they get to know each other in a new way. Anyone who spends a day working side by side at a school or a sports club works together differently back at the office, too.”

In Ratingen alone, more than 300 employees are taking part in 22 projects this year, contributing over 1,500 working hours to the common good. For the first time, they are joined by colleagues from Smartlab, a DKV Mobility Group company, in Aachen. Across Europe, more than 600 employees are involved in a total of 44 community projects in eight countries and at 13 locations. Alongside teams from Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania, Austria is part of the initiative for the first time in this anniversary year. The Community Day once again shows how corporate responsibility, local partnerships and the commitment of many individuals can come together to create an impact that lasts well beyond a single day of action.

Strengthening education, advancing inclusion, and making future skills tangible

Working with schools, clubs, social institutions and local partners, DKV Mobility is running a wide range of projects. At schools in Ratingen, the focus is on education, media literacy and future-oriented topics. At the reading festival at Erich Kästner Schule, employees read together with students in grades 2 through 4. The partner is Allianz Bildung & Lernen e.V. At Gebrüder-Grimm-Schule, fourth-grade classes are producing their own film on electric mobility. At Carl-Friedrich-von-Weizsäcker-Gymnasium, the focus is on project management and artificial intelligence, while students at Liebfrauenschule gain their first experience with AI-assisted coding.

Inclusion is another focus. At the Campus Festival at Scheifenkamp, DKV Mobility and Werkstätten des Kreises Mettmann (WFBM e.V.), a provider of sheltered employment for people with disabilities, are jointly hosting a day of creative and hands-on activities. The program is complemented by an inclusive sports day at Sportpark Götschenbeck, organized with RSV Ratingen 04/19 and TV Ratingen.

In the art talk "Datafied & Cached" at DKV Mobility's headquarters, artist Florian Auer joins upper-level students from Carl-Friedrich-von-Weizsäcker-Gymnasium to discuss the influence of data, algorithms and digital scoring on society. The discussion is based on works created by Vera Lainck's art class between January and July. Other projects range from job interview training with a simulated assessment center to a hackathon for digital innovation with Livingroom e.V. and live art performances at the company's headquarters.

Community Day is made possible by close cooperation with numerous partners from Ratingen and the surrounding region. These include Allianz Bildung & Lernen e.V. as well as the sports clubs TV Ratingen, RSV Ratingen 04/19 and BSG Ratingen. Many of these partners have been involved for all five editions, helping to ensure that the Community Day brings people together, opens up opportunities and creates lasting momentum for the city year after year.

Beyond the annual day of action, DKV Mobility is involved in ongoing local partnerships, including the "Schule der Zukunft" (School of the Future) project with Carl-Friedrich-von-Weizsäcker-Gymnasium and its cooperation with TV Ratingen.
