Future-proof tolling solution: DKV Mobility launches new 4G toll box
component-class__career-news-container-text
DKV Mobility is launching a new toll box equipped with 4G technology. This move by the international mobility service provider is a response to the announced shutdown of outdated 2G mobile networks in several European countries. Switzerland, for example, will introduce a new 4G-based toll system in 2026 for heavy-duty vehicles over 3.5 tons. Other countries including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway have also announced plans to discontinue their 2G-based toll services by the end of 2030. The new generation of the DKV Box Europe is expanding DKV Mobility’s EETS (European Electronic Toll Service) portfolio starting in Q4 2025.
Jérôme Lejeune, Managing Director Toll & Refund Services at DKV Mobility, commented: “With the new generation of the DKV Box Europe, we’re setting an important milestone for the future of the European toll market. Our customers will benefit from a powerful, future-ready solution that supports them reliably across 15 European countries.”
The new DKV Box Europe 4G features a large colour display for faster and more intuitive operation. With just one click, drivers can access key submenus to configure axle count and vehicle weight. Thanks to Plug-and-Play, the new box can be easily swapped with the existing 2G cable - just plug it in, and you're ready to go. The device operates fully independently, with no smartphone required. It combines DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technologies to ensure seamless toll collection, regardless of whether a country uses short-range or satellite-based systems. A standout feature is its smart battery warning system, which alerts users early about low battery levels to ensure uninterrupted power. The box also receives regular over-the-air updates to stay up to date and integrate new features automatically.
Currently, the DKV Box Europe supports 18 toll domains across 15 European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Hungary. It also covers key bridges and tunnels such as the Warnow Crossing and Herrentunnel in Germany, the Liefkenshoek Tunnel in Belgium, and the Scandinavian bridges. The toll service for the Czech Republic is also set to be added in the fall of 2025.
